Josh's First Father's Day!

This father's day was extra special for two reasons:  it was Josh's REAL first father's day (last year we sort of celebrated) and Matt's almost first father's day (to recap for you: my sister is due Dec. 18, 2012)!!!  We had a blast going to church at Brentwood Baptist then having the whole family over for brunch afterwards.  Later that day, just the three of us went to Chuy's and sat outside for a while.  Issie loved the way they wrapped the utensils in "crinkle" paper...so easily entertained for now :-)  Here are some pictures from Sunday:
Nothing makes me smile more than seeing these two together...

Hope everyone had as much fun on Father's Day as we did!  I know Josh was missing his Dad, Steve, and grandfathers but we celebrated them from afar :)

Happy Half-Birthday Isabella!!!

Yesterday Miss Issie Grace turned 6 months old!  I can't believe what a big girl she is becoming.  On her half-birthday, we had to go to the pediatrician for her 6 month check up :( Not the best way to spend the day.  She thoroughly enjoyed rolling around on the exam table though and of course, looking in the mirror!  I couldn't get her to stop!

All of the nurses had to stop in not only to see the cute baby, but to see where the loud squawking was coming from (and this was before the shots)!  She knows how to make her presence known :-)  The doctor was impressed with how happy and attentive she was!

Everything checked out great, however, the doctor is a little worried about the size of her head (it is 46.5 cm...which puts her in the 99th percentile/off the charts).  We always joke saying she is going to be really smart, etc. etc. but I had no idea it was something that could potentially be a health issue.  Anyways, the doctor reassured us that it is probably just a genetic thing but would like to have a CT Scan done on her to rule out anything more serious.  The scan is scheduled for June 25th at noon at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital.  Please keep sweet Issie in your prayers...we are sure everything will come back normal but it is still a little scary for all of us.

Here is her growth sticker at 6 months!!! I've saved all of these for her scrapbook that I will eventually get to...

Issie's first trip to Lake Lure!!!

This past weekend we made the five hour roadtrip to Lake Lure in North Carolina to visit with Josh's family.  His family has the cutest little lakehouse right on the water and we could not wait to bring Isabella for her first lake experience.  Josh and I left work early on Friday, picked up Isabella, then put the pedal to the metal...we were so anxious to get there!  Upon arrival, Isabella was overjoyed to be out of her carseat and even more tickled to see her Mimi, PawPaw, Aunt Edith, and Uncle Derrick.  You would have thought she was meeting her long lost best friends...I have never heard her squeal and giggle so much.  Here is the video of her visiting with Edith and Derrick when we first arrived, I think it's hillarious:

The first night we took the boat over to a local restaurant called Larkins and had dinner.  Issie was required to wear a tiny little life jacket while on the boat, but even that was huge on her!  The next day Mimi (Debbie) let Josh and I sleep in and woke up with Miss Early Bird.  I call her that because especially in the morning she loves the sound of her own squawking, she sounds like a baby bird (sounds cute but at 6:30 a.m. or earlier...it's NOT).  We tried a few times to get her to take to the water but she wanted nothing to do with getting in the lake or the kiddie pool :(  Maybe when she gets a little older she won't be so prissy about her water temperature...we'll see! Since she wouldn't get in the lake or pool, we put her in a dishwashing tub filled with warm water.  She loved splashing around in it!

Gamma and Papa came that afternoon from Asheville to visit and watched Issie for a few hours while Josh and I read and went out on the boat.  She loved rocking on the swing and relaxing with them :)

To top off the day we enjoyed dance performances by Edith and Derricky with a guest appearance by Steve...so entertaining!  We had so much fun and wish the weekend had not gone by so quickly...we can't wait for our next trip!!! More pics from the weekend (we gave her a bath in the sink and dried her on the stove in case you were wondering what was going on there):

The past few months...

So Josh and I always talk about how we wish we could just freeze time and keep Issie at her 6 month old tiny little self forever and ever.  Everyone tells you “enjoy it while it lasts…tomorrow she will be graduating highschool.”  Ughhh L  don’t say that!

On the other hand, I will admit that with every day, week, and month our time with her gets more fun.  She was calm and cuddly as an infant and now she is just plain wild and hilarious!  I love that we can now actually play with her and watch her little personality emerge.  Currently her favorite activities include:  playing in her jump jump (a.k.a. Baby Einstein activity center), swimming in her inflatable duck on the deck, wearing shoes (esp. her tiny pink converse sneakers), and eating sweet potatoes.  Yes, she is now eating “big girl food” and is turning into quite the little chunk because of it-- which I love!  Below is her first attempt at feeding herself...it makes me cringe watching baby food fly everywhere but I feel like it's good for her to at least try if she wants!

I know it has been a while since my last blog so I will update you on major events that have happened over the past few months.  First and most importantly, we are SO excited to announce that Isabella will have a cousin due December 18, 2012!  My sister and her husband, Matt, are expecting their first baby and our family is thrilled.  I have always enjoyed the time I get to spend with my cousins and am so glad Isabella will be able to grow up near him/her.  It’s crazy how quickly your family can grow.  Last year we celebrated my mom on mother’s day and this year we celebrated the fact that all three of us are mommas! Speaking of mother’s day, let me just say that my first mother’s day with Isabella was a treat.  It was more of a “mother’s week,” as Josh made sure the days leading up to Sunday were special as well.  On the big day he got me a giant Starbucks (I have a “Steebucks obsession” as he says) and let me sleep in before presenting me with a BEAUTIFUL gold necklace that says “Issie”…I’ve been eying this for a while and it is perfect!

Over the past few months we have had the pleasure of entertaining a few guests in our new house! It has been so awesome to have enough space to accommodate our out-of-town friends and fam.  We spent a wonderful weekend with my best friend, Lauren, and her boyfriend Aaron a few months ago and this past week, Josh’s dad Kent and his new wife Robin stayed with us.  We had so much fun spending time with them and going to the Nashville Zoo!  I am a HUGE fan of zoos and aquariums so at this point, I think I enjoyed the experience more than Issie…but oh well!  Here she is with "Grand-dude Thompson" and the other pic is Lauren and Aaron.

This upcoming weekend we are going to North Carolina to Josh’s family’s lake house at Lake Lure!  Isabella tried on her little searsucker bikini last night just to make sure it fits perfectly for her swimming debut (pictured below).  We are SO excited for a relaxing weekend by the water and even more excited to see Debbie, Steve, Edith, Derricky, Gamma, and Papa!
